NCL Jewel

NCL Jewel

Cruise Analysis

Feb 3, found us traveling to New York and and staying at the Laguardia Hotel.  Sat. Morning the 4th, we found our charriots (strech limos) waiting to take us to the NCL Jewel for what was an almost perfect week!  How else can leaving out of New York harbor on Feb 4 on the top deck with your coats open viewing the Statue Of Liberty be described in 50 degree weather!

Six plus squares of dancers joined us.  Many of which were first time cruisers, all of which said they would do it again.  The perfect week would have been if the Patriots had won the Super Bowl!  Do you know how tough was to watch the game on the big screen, with 3 times as many Giant fans as Patriots fans on a ship out of New York sitting all around you?

We had six dance sessions, all were almost 100% attended by our group.  THANK YOU;  that was so appreciated when there is so much else to do.

Our first port of call was Cape Canaveral.  We took a 7 hour shore excursion that was truly amazing.  Seeing the space program up close and personal was awesome.  Appolo, the first manned capsule, the rover, the I max theater where we saw someone we knew; on the big screen at the International Space Station. The simulated rocket launch shook us in places we didn't know we had   It was quite a demo.   Put traveling into space a reality for those that will never do it.

Our next stop was NCL's Grand Stirrup Cay for a day of 80 degree beach bummin weather.  I hiked to the back side of the island and saw many iguanas and wildlife.  Parasail and snokeling was available.  A Reggae Band played and a barbecue feast awaited all.

Next, it was on to Nassau, Bahamas.  As we were coming into port you could see 1 ship in front of us, if you looked behind there was 2 more behind us.  After we docked a total of 5 cruise ships were there at once,  it was quite a sight.  We had made our own shore excursion before we left home.  We got off the ship and were told we would have to get a cab to the other side of the island and take a water ferry.  what an interesting cab ride that was!!   Finally, got on the ferry and went to Paradise Island.  Yes we were there to swim with the dolphins.  An experience that is way past what I can put into words.  Coming back to the ship we got on the wrong water ferry but it turned out better than we could have wished for.  We ended up within walking distance to our ship.  We just boarded the Jewel and it started raining.  It was the only bad weather we saw the entire trip.

The ships entertainment was second to none.  Beatles Tribute Band  Elton John impersonator, magic shows,    The White Hot Night Party for the late night crowds.  The Quest.  Oh we can not forget the hypnotist can we Jeff?

Two days to get back to New York, several dance sessions during this period, including one on the top deck made the trip go too fast.  Twenty of us boarded the bus back to Western New England, yes it was time to get back to reality.  We arrived in Gill, Mass and we all went to a local restaurant.  We really just did not want it to end.

THANK YOU ALL for what was a Truly an Amazing Week.  Don & Sally-Ann.
